Advance Directives - Make your wishes known
In the Yukon, you can appoint someone you trust to make health care and personal care decisions for you through an Advance Directive. In other places, these are sometimes called “living wills.” You can also write down your wishes for future health care and personal care in a Directive. This type of planning can assist your family at a time of great emotional stress and can reduce the potential for family disputes regarding the care you should receive. For more information, contact the Advance Directives office - (867) 456-6800, toll free 1-800-661-0408 ext. 6800 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Are You Insured When Traveling?
If you fall ill or have an accident while travelling outside the Yukon, are you aware that your Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan may not cover all your medical expenses? Yukon residents are advised to buy additional health care insurance when travelling outside the territory - including in the rest of Canada; even for day trips to Atlin, BC and Alaska. For more information about what is covered, and not covered, please contact Yukon Health and Social Services.
Organ and Tissue Donation
The need for organs and tissue in Canada continues to outweigh the availability. You can improve and save lives by choosing to be an organ and tissue donor. Your family may find comfort that someone else has hope for a better life. For more information, visit the Yukon Organ Donation Program website.
