How to Join the YMA

To become a Full Member of the YMA you will need to:

1. be registered, licensed and in good standing with the Yukon Medical Council

2. be a resident of the Yukon  Please Note: 2 pieces of documentation is required to provide proof of residency 

3. complete the Membership Application Form (contact office@yukondoctors.ca)

4.YMA will send your a link to facilitate payment.

5. Once payment is complete YMA will activate your membership.

Practicing medicine in today's health care environment is challenging. The stress can take a toll on your well-being, particularly when dealing with a medico-legal event. That’s why, CMPA is offering the Physician Well-Being Index (WBI) in both official languages to its members.

Validated by the Mayo Clinic, this anonymous, web-based tool is designed to: 

  • Provide you with an effective way to assess your levels of distress in just a few questions.

  • Provide you with province/territory specific wellness resources.

  • Allow you to compare your scores to peers and track your progress over time.

PHYSICIAN NEGOTIATED CONTRIBUTION - BENEFIT Programs ***NEW UPDATES***

New 2025-2028 Memorandum of Agreement now active.  ONLY some funds are available and many don't go into effect until April 1, 2026.  Please see below list of benefits available. 

  • YMA Full Members - access to all funds, contingent on meeting individual fund eligibility criteria

CCFP and RCPSC Recruitment Fund: *new* - open for registration/application

The CCFP and RCPSC Recruitment program is funded by a contribution agreement between the Yukon Medical Association (YMA) and the Government of Yukon. The purpose of this program is to recruit Physicians to the Yukon and commit to a rural community or an Acute Care Service

Overhead Support Fund: *new* - open for registration/application 

The Overhead Support program is funded by a contribution agreement between the Yukon Medical Association (YMA) and the Government of Yukon. The purpose of this program is to provide support to Physicians who are paying overhead at a medical clinic to operate their practice regardless of the remuneration structure.

No Family Doctor (NFD) Program 

The purpose of this program is to match unattached patients who do not have a family doctor with a Family Physician who is willing to accept new patients into their practice.

CME Program - 2025 version still active

  • To assist resident physicians with continuing medical education costs.

CMPA Program - 2025 version still active

  • To reimburse eligible physicians for their CMPA dues on a biannual basis.

  • Eligibility includes: YMA Full Members residing and practicing in the Yukon -AND-Locum physicians who cover the practices of resident Yukon physicians billing the Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan (YHCIP) and who do not receive CMPA reimbursement from their own jurisdiction for the time they work in Yukon.

Locum Support Fund - 2025 version still active

  • To assist resident physicians in attracting locum physicians by subsidizing reasonable and usual expenses and overhead expenses.

Parental Benefits Program - 2025. version still active

  • To provide partial income replacement for a physician parent who wants to take a temporary leave from Yukon practice following the birth/adoption of a child.

Preceptor and Mentorship Support Program - 2025 version still active

  • To encourage Yukon physicians to become preceptors and mentors for new physicians and visiting post-graduate residents and under graduate medical students.

Physician Relocation Program (2-year return of service agreement) - 2025 version still active

  • To assist recruited physicians with their relocation costs.

Resident and Medical Student Support Fund - 2025 version still active

  • To provide financial assistance for travel and accommodation costs incurred by residents or medical students who are doing elective rotations in the Yukon with either Yukon physicians or Visiting Specialists at the Visiting Specialist Clinics.

Rural Recruitment and Retention Fund *new* - 2025 version still active but sunsetting.  

  • to promote the recruitment of new physicians and the retention of existing physicians to live and practice in designated rural Yukon communities.

UpToDate Fund - Still active under current agreement

  • Provides an annual YMA group subscription to UpToDate, free to Full Members.
