How to Join the YMA

To become a Full Member of the YMA you will need to:

1. be registered, licensed and in good standing with the Yukon Medical Council

2. be a resident of the Yukon  Please Note: 2 pieces of documentation is required to provide proof of residency 

3. complete the Membership Application Form (contact office@yukondoctors.ca)

4. pay the Full Member dues

Benefit Programs Access

  • YMA Full Members - access to all funds, contingent on meeting individual fund eligibility criteria

Benefit Programs 2022-2025

Attachment and Attraction Fund - ***new***

  • To promote transparent and equitable access to physician supports for longitudinal primary care physicians, surgical and non-surgical resident specialists regardless of remuneration structure

  • Intended to contribute to cost of practice operation (overhead).

CME Program

  • To assist resident physicians with continuing medical education costs.

CMPA Program

  • To reimburse eligible physicians for their CMPA dues on a biannual basis.

  • Eligibility includes: YMA Full Members residing and practicing in the Yukon -AND-Locum physicians who cover the practices of resident Yukon physicians billing the Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan (YHCIP) and who do not receive CMPA reimbursement from their own jurisdiction for the time they work in Yukon.

Locum Support Fund

  • To assist resident physicians in attracting locum physicians by subsidizing reasonable and usual expenses and overhead expenses.

Parental Benefits Program

  • To provide partial income replacement for a physician parent who wants to take a temporary leave from Yukon practice following the birth/adoption of a child.

New Grads of CCFP (5-year return of service agreement)

  • To recruit recently graduated family physicians to Yukon, by providing financial incentives.

New Grads of RCPSC (5-year return of service agreement)

  • To recruit recently graduated specialists to Yukon, by providing financial incentives.

Preceptor and Mentorship Support Program

  • To encourage Yukon physicians to become preceptors and mentors for new physicians and visiting post-graduate residents and under graduate medical students.

Physician Relocation Program (2-year return of service agreement)

  • To assist recruited physicians with their relocation costs.

Recruitment Program (3-year return of service agreement) - ***closing***

  • To promote the recruitment of new physicians to Yukon, by providing financial incentives.

Retention Program (3-year return of service agreement) - ***closing***

  • To promote the retention of practicing physicians in Yukon, by providing financial incentives.

Resident and Medical Student Support Fund

  • To provide financial assistance for travel and accommodation costs incurred by residents or medical students who are doing elective rotations in the Yukon with either Yukon physicians or Visiting Specialists at the Visiting Specialist Clinics.

Rural Recruitment and Retention Fund *new*

  • to promote the recruitment of new physicians and the retention of existing physicians to live and practice in designated rural Yukon communities.

UpToDate Fund

  • Provides an annual YMA group subscription to UpToDate, free to Full Members.

External Funded Benefits - temporary

Physician Leadership and Development (PLPD) via CMA Funding - expires December 2024

Physician Wellness Fund via Affinity Funding (CMA and MD Financial) - expires October 2024

  • YMA is please to accounce Yukon physicians, partners and dependents are eligible for in-person counselling services with 2 YMA contracted providers.
  • Complimentary counselling services approved until October 2024
  • No pre-registration required at this time.  Counselling providers are committed to seeing our physicians, partners and dependents who seek services even if website indicates they are not taking new patients.
